VI. About Project "Decide Well, Spend Wisely"

What is the purpose of the project?

We hope the gift of HK$5,000 will enable recipients to focus their energy on facing the HKDSE examination. We trust that they will spend the money wisely according to their needs.

Why cash?

Feedback we received from “Love HK Your Way!” campaign indicated unconditional cash distribution could be a direct and cost-efficient approach.

Why HK$5,000?

It’s our team’s general consensus that HK$5,000 for nine months is a reasonable amount for this initiative. Students can use the Gift in ways they consider fit, provided that the Gift shall not be directly or indirectly involved in or leads to any breach or non-compliance of any applicable laws, rules or regulations.

What are the expectations for students and the application requirements?

The HK$5,000 is essentially an unconditional gift. We trust that students can make wise decisions and manage their finances responsibly. The amount will be distributed to the HKDSE students from the schools of Yuen Long and Islands Districts upon registration.

What is the expected outcome of this project?

We believe this unconditional financial support is a worthwhile pilot scheme.

Why were secondary schools in Yuen Long and Islands Districts chosen and why was the program extended to Tuen Mun District?

Over 5,700 DSE students in Yuen Long and Islands Districts participated in phase 1 of the Program, through which we distributed $5,000 in cash as unconditional support to DSE students to encourage sound decision-making. These districts are relatively remote and some students were affected by the high cost of transportation. We are grateful for the overwhelming community support and the many thoughtful comments and suggestions in particular to the “unconditional” aspect of the Program in Round 1. Most see it as a meaningful breakthrough. We also received many very compelling emails from schools, parents, and community groups supporting the Program’s expansion to Tuen Mun. At this stage, DSE students from the schools of Yuen Long, Islands, Tuen Mun Districts are eligible for this benefit.

Any possibility to extend the project to include other areas?

We will review the results from this pilot scheme and decide then.
