18 November 2005

(Hong Kong, 18 November 2005) Chairman of Hutchison Whampoa Limited Li Ka-shing held a private meeting today with Governor of the State of California Arnold Schwarzenegger during the Governor’s brief stay in Hong Kong.

During the one-hour meeting, the Governor invited Mr Li to invest in California, following a pleasant discussion between the two on a variety of subjects.

Mr Schwarzenegger also thanked Mr Li at the meeting for his generous donation of USD40 million to the University of California at Berkeley, the largest international gift in the history of the university.

The donation was made in June this year through the Li Ka-shing Foundation to help the university establish the Li Ka-Shing Center for Biomedical and Health Sciences focusing on creating solutions to today’s major health problems such as cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, AIDS and dengue fever.
