Chancellor Robert Birgeneau of the University of California Berkeley confers to Mr Li Ka-shing the Berkeley Medal, the highest honour of the university. The Medal is given to those “whose work or contributions to society illustrate the ideals of the university.” The university, which does not award honorary doctorates, recognised Mr Li’s contribution to human life, “regardless of race, class or circumstance.”

Opening of world-class research and education institute at St Michael’s Hospital promotes the discovery, sharing and application of knowledge
The exterior of the new Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St Michael’s Hospital in downtown Toronto. The building is the first in Toronto, and among the first in the world, specifically designed to bring researchers, educators and clinicians together to incubate ideas and bring new treatments to patients faster.
Mr Li volunteers to take part in a CPR demonstration during his visit to the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St Michael’s Hospital on Tuesday.
