LKSF supports Blossom Minds with $2 million donation to mentor young adults

26 April 2018

The Li Ka Shing Foundation, a pillar in caring for the under-privileged groups and nurturing a better tomorrow for people has donated $2 million to Blossom Minds, a division of Learning Support Services Association, an NGO that focuses in supporting young adults with special needs and special educational needs (SENs). Blossom Minds, set up as a flower business with a social agenda, offers employment opportunities to young adults and is committed to cultivating their talents in the mainstream workforce and enhance their engagement with mainstream society.

Blossom Minds recruits young adults from mainstream secondary schools, special schools and related organizations. Once trained, they are working for Blossom Minds and are supported by a team of professionals in SENs or special needs in building their individual strengths for their career development. From May 2018 onwards, with the support from the Li Ka Shing Foundation, Blossom Minds will open a flower shop at 90 Hoi Bun Road, Kwun Tong. The key goal of the shop is to create a workplace to enhance young adults’ development and to eventually work in the mainstream environment and be able to interact with the community.

It has always been a commitment of the Li Ka Shing Foundation to make on-going contributions to support health care and education development, investing in talent and technology that builds a better tomorrow. In February, Foundation Chairman Mr. Li Ka-shing expressed his strong support for social enterprises and projects that advance social development. Blossom Minds is the third social project this year to receive the Foundation’s support, following earlier contributions to social enterprises Food Angel and Longevity Care Home Modification Project.

With the support from the Li Ka Shing Foundation, Mrs Anita F Ellis, the founder of Blossom Minds, believes that it will enhance the chance for young adults with differences to be part of the community and more importantly for the community to integrate with them and appreciate their work in flower arranging.
