250 More Ways to Love Hong Kong

(Hong Kong, 6 August 2011) Five hundred representatives for the 250 projects voted in by the citizens of Hong Kong attended the sharing gathering of “Love Ideas, Love HK” Round 2 today held at Harbour Grand Hong Kong. Joined in a common spirit of service and engagement to the community, the representatives for the top 10 project categories proudly shouted out their innovative mission slogans and waved their colourful project banners. They believe their missions address the current concerns of our times in meaningful ways.

The event also premiered the theme song for the Li Ka Shing Foundation’s “Love Ideas, Love HK” programme, Ideas HK, featuring local Canto Pop group Farma. The lyrics rapped out the fun and energy of an inclusive campaign.

Mr Li Ka-shing congratulated the winners and thanked all who participated in Round 2 of the programme. He said, “Your care, your dare and your share demonstrated the positive power of participation and inclusion. Your dedication will inspire the community and move it forward.”

Round 2 of “Love Ideas Love HK”, launched on 3 May, saw unprecedented user interaction and viral engagement, with a total of 1,070 proposals being submitted during the two-week application period. Between 13 June and 3 July, 915 qualified projects were listed for public voting, and 230 projects were voted in. In addition, Mr Li selected and supported another 20 with additional personal funds. The total amount of HK$36.75 million will be awarded in this round.

“Love Ideas, Love HK” is the first programme of LKSF’s HK$300 million philanthropic campaign “Love HK Your Way!”, which is a major new interactive philanthropic programme that combines the power of technology, charity and community awareness. The programme encourages Hong Kong residents to be innovative and proactive towards the concerns in their community, and to vote for projects they believe will make a positive difference.
