NBA FIT camps return to China to teach basketball and life skills

-Li Ka-shing Foundation Continues Support; Denver Nuggets Chris Andersen and NBA Legend Bo Outlaw to Coach Campers-

BEIJING, CHINA, August 24, 2009 – The Li Ka-shing Foundation (LKSF) and the National Basketball Association (NBA) today announced that NBA Fit Camps will return to China for the third consecutive year to teach basketball and life lessons to youth. The basketball camps will take place in two cities, tipping off at Shantou University Aug. 25 to 26, and then heading to Nanning from August 28 to 29.

This year, the Camps will put a special emphasis on the importance of fitness and conditioning fitness training, showing young Chinese how to condition themselves to become better athletes. For the first time, an athletic trainer is joining the coaching team for NBA FIT Camps in China.

With sponsorships from the LKS Foundation, 200 campers aged 12-18 will at tend the two camps. NBA Legend Bo Outlaw, Denver Nuggets center Chris Andersen and New York Knicks athletic trainer Anthony Goenaga will be camp coaches.

The LKSF and NBA have a long standing collaborative relationship while both are committed to long term social responsibility initiatives.

“NBA FIT Camps is an excellent opportunity for youth in China to experience authentic NBA basketball training,” said Ms. Laura Cheung, spokesperson of the Li Ka-shing Foundation. “The program encourages youngsters to be more focused on healthy living and emphasizes the importance of sportsmanship and leadership.”
