(Hong Kong, 11 November 2005) The Cheung Kong and Hutchison Whampoa Group has mobilised a total of 14 group companies to join a Hospital Authority campaign that aims at beating the flu through concerted efforts.
Through the campaign, named “Let’s Beat the Flu”, the Group will be working together with the Hospital Authority and other participating organisations to publicise flu prevention messages in the coming three months.
In a bid to show the Group’s care about staff’s health, Deputy Group Managing Director of Hutchison Whampoa Limited Susan Chow led representatives of the 14 group companies to attend the launching ceremony of the campaign today at Hospital Authority’s headquarters.
The representatives also attended a training session on flu prevention immediately after the ceremony and they were charged with a duty of passing on the flu prevention messages to colleagues and their families.
Mrs Chow said the Cheung Kong and Hutchison Whampoa Group was one of the biggest employers in Hong Kong, employing a total workforce of more than 34,000 people in the territory.
“As a responsible employer, we do care about the health of our colleagues. That is why we are enthusiastic about this meaningful campaign,” she said.
“Let’s Beat the Flu” is one of the activities of the “Better Health for Better Hong Kong” project, a five-year project organised jointly by the Hospital Authority and the Li Ka-shing Foundation.
The Foundation has donated HK$10 million to sponsor this project, which aims at instilling a healthy lifestyle concept into the general public through free basic health tests, health promotion programmes and exhibitions.
